Certainly! Here’s a simple recipe for Red Lobia Curry:

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup red lobia (kidney beans), soaked overnight or for at least 8 hours
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Red Chilli powder – 1 teaspoon
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt to taste
  • Chopped cilantro for garnish

Preparation Method

Step 1 (Red Lobia Beans)

Soak the Red Lobia:
Rinse the red lobia under cold water and soak them in enough water overnight or for at least 8 hours. After soaking, drain the water.

Pressure Cook the Red Lobia:
In a pressure cooker, add the soaked red lobia along with enough water to cover them.
Add salt and pressure cook for about 3-4 whistles or until the beans are tender and cooked through.

Prepare the Curry:
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds and till it splutter.
Add 1 large finely chopped onion and saute it till reaches golden brown colour.

Spices:
Add 1 teaspoon of ginger-garlic paste and saute till the raw smell disappears.
Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and oil starts to separate.

Dry Spices:
Add 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder and add 1 teaspoon of red chilli powder and then add 1 teaspoon of coriander powder and add 1 teaspoon of garam masala. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes until the spices are well incorporated.

Step 2 

Cooked Red Lobia:
Add the cooked red lobia (kidney beans) to the pan and mix well with the spice mixture.

Adjust Consistency:
Adjust the consistency of curry by adding water if it’s is too thick. Bring it to a boil and then simmer for 10-15 minutes to let the flavors meld.

Check for Seasoning:
Adjust salt and spice levels according to your taste.

Garnish and Serve:
Garnish the red lobia curry with chopped cilantro. Serve the red lobia curry hot with steamed rice or Indian bread like roti or naan.
