The main ingredients in kara chutney often include red chillies, onions, tomatoes, garlic, and sometimes tamarind for tanginess.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 5-6 dried red chillies
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic
  • 1 small piece of tamarind
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • Salt to taste

For Tempering:

  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon urad dal (black gram)
  • A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  • Few curry leaves

Preparation Method

Today’s recipe is delicious and taste recipe that is Kara Chutney and so let’s gets started.

Step 1 (Kara Chutney)

Prepare Ingredients:

Chop the onions and tomatoes. Take the 1 small piece of tamarind, soak it in a little water.

Sautéing:


Take a pan and add oil and heat it by keeping the flame on medium. Then add the chopped onions and saute till it reaches golden brown colour.


Add chopped tomatoes, dried red chillies, and garlic. Sauté until the tomatoes are soft.
If using tamarind, add it to the mixture.

Cooling:

Allow the mixture to cool before blending.
Blending:

After the mixture is cooled transfer it  to a blender.
Add salt to taste.
Blend into a smooth paste.

Step 2 (Kara Chutney)

Tempering:
Take a pan and oil and heat it add mustard seeds. When they start to splutter, add urad dal and let it turn golden brown. Add a pinch of asafoetida and curry leaves. Fry for a few seconds.


Combine:
Mix the tempering and blended chutney by adding the tempering into the blended chutney and mix well.

Serve:
Your Kara Chutney is ready to be served. Serve it with dosa, idli, uttapam, or any other South Indian dish.
