INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 block (about 14 ounces) firm or extra-firm tofu, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • /1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying

For the Sauce:

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chilli sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sweet chilli sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 cup water

For Stir-frying:

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, cut into chunks
  • 1 onion, cut into chunks
  • Optional: sliced green onions for garnish
  • Optional: sesame oil for drizzling

Preparation Method

Step 1 (Chilli Tofu)

Prepare Tofu:
For removing the excess moisture need to Pat the tofu dry with a paper towel. Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes. Coat the tofu cubes in cornstarch, ensuring they are well-covered.

Fry Tofu:
Take a pan and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil and heat it by keeping the flame on medium. Fry the coated tofu cubes until they are golden brown and crispy on all sides.
For absorb any excess oil in tofu, move the tofu from the pan and keep it on a tissue paper or kitchen paper towel.

Make Sauce:
In a bowl, mix together soy sauce, chilli sauce, sweet chilli sauce, rice vinegar, ketchup, sugar, and water. Set aside.

Stir-fry Vegetables:
In the same pan, add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Sauté minced garlic and ginger until fragrant. Add bell peppers and onions, stir-frying until they are slightly tender.

Combine and Cook:
Return the fried tofu to the pan with the vegetables. Pour the prepared sauce over the tofu and vegetables. Stir-fry the mixture until the sauce thickens and coats the tofu and vegetables evenly.

Serve:
Garnish with sliced green onions and drizzle with sesame oil if desired. Serve hot over rice or noodles.
