INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup rice
  • 1/4 cup urad dal
  • 2-3 ripe tomatoes
  • 1/2 inch ginger, grated
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • A handful of fresh coriander leaves, chopped
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for cooking

Preparation Method

Step 1 (Tomato Dosa)

1. Soak Rice and Urad Dal:

Take 1 cup of rice and wash it  and Soak them in water for 4-6 hours or overnight. Then take 1/4 cup of urad dal Soak them in water for 4-6 hours or overnight.

2. Grind the Batter:

Drain the water and grind the rice and urad dal together to make a smooth batter by adding water as per your need.

3. Prepare Tomato Puree:

Blend 2-3 ripe tomatoes to make a smooth puree. You can peel the tomatoes if desired.

4. Mix Batter and Tomato Puree:
Add the tomato puree to the dosa batter. Mix well.

5. Add Flavourings:

Add grated ginger, chopped green chillies, chopped coriander leaves, and salt to the batter and mix it well.

Step 2 (Tomato Dosa)


6. Ferment the Batter:

Ferment the batter for about 8 hours , This step is important for the dosa to be soft and flavourful.


7. Prepare Dosa:

Take a dosa pan and heat it by keeping the flame on medium heat.
Pour a ladleful of batter in the center and spread it in a circular motion to make a thin dosa.

8. Drizzle Oil:

Drizzle few drops oil at the edges of the dosa. Cook until the the bottom turns golden brown.

9. Flip and Cook:
Flip the dosa and cook the other side for a short duration until it’s cooked.

10. Serve:
– Serve the tomato dosa hot with coconut chutney, sambar, or any chutney of your choice.
