Methi Paratha is a popular Indian bread made with Methi and whole wheat flour. It is a delicious and nutritious dish that is commonly enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner in India. Here’s a basic recipe for making Methi Paratha:

INGREDIENTS:

For the dough:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour (atta)
  • Methi – 1 cup (Finely chopped)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon ajwain (carom seeds)
  • Water, as needed

For cooking:

  • Ghee or oil for cooking the parathas

Preparation Method

Step 1 (Methi Paratha)

  • Start by washing the fresh fenugreek leaves thoroughly and chop them finely. You can also use frozen fenugreek leaves if fresh ones are not available.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, chopped fenugreek leaves, salt, red chilli powder, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, and garam masala (if using). Mix the dry ingredients well.
  • Gradually add water to the mixture and start kneading the dough. Mix the dough until it becomes smooth. The fenugreek leaves will release some moisture as you knead the dough, so you may not need too much water.
  • Keep the dough covered with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes.
    Then divide the dough into small portions in equal sized and roll them into balls.
  • Take a dough ball and then the flatten it by using your hands. You can use some dry flour to prevent sticking if needed. Roll the dough ball into a circle (paratha) using a rolling pin.

Step 2 (Methi Paratha)

  • Heat a griddle or tava over medium-high heat. Once it’s hot, place the rolled paratha on it. Cook the paratha until you see small bubbles forming on the surface, then flip it.
  • Apply ghee or oil on the cooked side, and flip it again. Apply ghee or oil on this side as well. Continue Cooking until both sides become crispy and golden brown colour.
  • Remove the methi paratha from the griddle and place it on a plate lined with a paper towel to remove any excess ghee or oil.
  • Methi Paratha is best served hot and fresh, accompanied by yogurt, pickle, or a side dish of your choice. It’s a delightful and nutritious flatbread with the unique flavour of fenugreek leaves.
